There wasn’t much to do or shop for nearby, and you need to drive to reach this homestay. They provide BBQ equipment, but I felt I’d better not use it in case it broke a house rule. The sleeping room is small, and I don’t think the price offers good value. I’d recommend a hotel instead. I couldn’t feel much hospitality or enthusiasm from the owner; it felt like they wanted to put in minimal effort and make a profit. All in all, it’s an average homestay, not bad, but don’t expect too much. On the good side, I liked the Japanese-style building, free parking, and Wi-Fi. The instructions were clear, and check-in and check-out were self-service. The downside is there’s only one bathroom, and it’s small and old. In my opinion, it’s not suitable for two families, and a maximum of five people seems right. During my stay, I got three emails reminding me what not to do, and had to fill in a form and send a passport copy. It felt like there were more rules than at a hotel.

That evening ritual on the terrace, sipping tea and looking up at the stars, was so calming. The wooden cabin was warm and tidy, with a little kitchenette where I picked up groceries at the local supermarket and cooked for myself. The host was kind, and the whole place was peaceful, just right for getting away from the busy world and spending time in nature. I visited on February 4th, 2020 to document my trip, and this guesthouse really did feel like home while I was away in Okinawa. I’d happily come back.

There are a couple of large supermarkets only a 5-10 minute drive away, so stocking up is easy. The spot also gives you good access to downtown Motobu, Churaumi Aquarium, Kishimoto Restaurant, Kajinhou Pizza, and other well-known places to eat in the north. I’d recommend it if you want to stay in a traditional Japanese house. Just keep in mind it’s a residential setting, and there can be quite a few insects, which might be uncomfortable if you’re sensitive to them.

We had a barbecue during our stay with my daughter's family, after renting the house together. It's tucked into a residential neighborhood, but was quiet and pleasant. We couldn't catch the sunset over the Okinawan ocean, though. Such a pity!

It was still a comfortable place to stay, even though the Japanese-style sliding door had dust on it.
