The staff member was polite, but the building felt extremely old. Our room had a powerful damp-straw smell, and the toilet was worse, like wet wood mixed with cigarette smoke. It was disgusting. The onsen was tucked away in the basement behind a storage room. That room was very old, and the bath was tiny, about the size of three bathtubs. The floor was slippery, so be careful. Dinner may have been a misunderstanding or a mistake, since we weren't charged. Either way, it was the worst Japanese food I've ever had: kimchi with intestines and green capsicum, thin fatty pork soaked in oil, cold soba soup, and fish in soy sauce. There wasn't even miso soup. The whole place felt like a cheap backpacker hostel, though the price wasn't cheap. Maybe budget travelers who drink a lot would like it, since there was plenty of alcohol. I'm definitely not coming back.

It's very nice and getting to the ski slopes is easy. I'd recommend it, though there are lots of similar places, so it's worth checking around first.

A nice traditional Japanese hotel. The onsen isn't very large, but it's fine.

For the low price, having meals and hot spring baths included makes the room's lack of cleanliness easier to accept. The hot spring water comes straight from Akakura Onsen and is pretty good, though the men's bath has only five or six washing spots and the bath itself fits about five people. It's a friendly place, and the staff's warm manner and little extras make up for them not being especially formal. The meals are casual hot pot rather than the fancy inn food you might expect, with a training-camp feel. You can apparently pay extra for a sashimi platter. The inn and rooms aren't especially clean. Some rooms have washlets and some don't, and you need to lay out your own futon. The TV reception isn't great in the mountains, and there's no pay-to-play system. Towels and amenities cost extra, so bring your own. Bath towels are around 500 yen. There are a few games, including Othello, mahjong, and playing cards. For a training camp or work stay, it's good value and works fine. I wouldn't choose it for night views, spotless rooms, or a date.

I've been here twice now, and the manager is thoughtful and really friendly with guests. It's near the slopes, the food's tasty, and the hot spring comes straight from the source. Lunch is good and inexpensive too. I especially recommend the stewed beef offal, limited to 20 servings, and the yakitori bowl.
