Why Kumano Hostel & Cafe Bar

This is a cozy, well-equipped hostel that suited me as a light traveler. The sleeping spaces are nicely divided, so everyone gets an enclosed area of their own. The facilities include two separate bathrooms, a shower, lockers, and a small spot to hang wet clothes. You can also leave your bags in the common area after checkout. They serve breakfast sandwiches and coffee in the morning, and I recommend the iced coffee. It’s very central, right across from the train and bus stops, with plenty of seafood restaurants nearby.

After finishing the Kumano Kodo, this was a great place to stay. The rooms are small, but clean and well arranged, and the bathrooms and toilets were clean too. Check-in was quick and easy. JR station is right across the road. I’d recommend it.

The lounge was a comfortable spot to relax and chat with other guests. The staff also offered water, coffee, and laundry, which I hadn’t expected and really appreciated. The building and room feel cozy and look nice. Even on cold Wakayama nights, I wasn’t worried about being cold inside the hostel.

We were worn out after a long day on the Kumano Kodo, and the front desk staff were so friendly that they lifted our mood. The hostel is only steps from both the train and bus stations, with plenty of food options nearby and a coffee bar at reception. For a budget capsule stay or a hostel in general, I can’t recommend Why Kumano enough. What a fantastic place.
