Chojian

The food was the highlight for me. I’ve stayed in lots of places, but haven’t had homemade food this good before. It was a lovely stay, too, with a peaceful, quiet atmosphere.

I’m looking forward to visiting this ryokan again. It was such a relaxing place, with fresh, delicious food and friendly service. One of the best ryokan I’ve stayed at in Japan.

The food was what impressed me most. The bear shabu-shabu was mild and so good I wanted to finish every bit. The mountain vegetables were carefully prepared, the eel was fluffy with crispy skin, and the white rice was glossy. There were too many delicious things to list. We had the whole place to ourselves, so we could bathe whenever we wanted and relax without worrying about the thin walls. I was also delighted by how many heaters there were, including one in the bathroom. It really felt like they didn’t want anyone to be cold. We booked this place less than an hour’s drive away for a mini-vacation, and it turned out to be a wonderful stay. The only downside was the stink bugs, though I understand that’s hard to avoid in the countryside. I’ve decided I’ll definitely come back. Thank you.

I only stopped in for lunch this time, and there was plenty to enjoy. The flower basket of wild vegetables, amago trout wrapped in bamboo leaves, and wild vegetable tempura were all delicious. I had a generous serving of the sweet, tasty rice from the wooden container. It’s apparently specially cultivated natural rice, which feels reassuring. The place also looks like it would be lovely for a quiet overnight stay.
