Hotel Anbient Tateshina

We could often see deer and rabbits from the hotel rooms, with the mountains nearby making a brilliant view. At night there were piano concerts and chances to look at the stars, plus a candle-lit ceremony atrium, onsens on site, and walking paths around the lake. Breakfast was a huge buffet with options for every diet. We were greeted warmly with free popcorn and wine tastings, and the washoku dinner set was a luxurious way to try the local cuisine.

We went at the end of March and Lake Megami was still frozen. The resort is lovely, right beside the lake, with a large room that had a small Japanese-style room in the middle that could be closed off. The indoor and outdoor onsens were great, especially the outdoor one, and the service was superb. The food was really good too. We’ll be back for more.

Awful hotel. Getting to the room meant a really long walk, down one elevator, along another long corridor, then into a second elevator. The room was very hot, and when I asked about air conditioning, I was told to open the window. That wasn’t possible because there was no window in the room.

For 7000 Yen per person, we got a cottage in the middle of the forest. It was old and had several kinds of insects inside, though that was only a minor issue. We had a great time and could make as much noise as we wanted. It was much better than staying in an hotel.
