The host and staff were so welcoming, and they even helped us park the car in the snow. We really appreciated that. The minshuku was spotless, with a spacious, comfortable room for four adults. We didn’t eat there, though the food looked generous and tasty. It was our first visit to Japan and our first stay in a traditional Japanese-style minshuku. Coming from a place with only summer, seeing snowfall for the first time was something special.

We missed our bus and were lucky to find this family willing to take us in as late walk-ins. They helped me make it through the night, and quite literally may have saved my life. The place was clean, roomy, and comfortable. I’d happily stay here again if I make it back to togakushi.

The owner was very friendly and helpful, and speaking English was a real plus. The rooms are large, with traditional tatami floors and futons, and dinner was very good Japanese food. It’s a nice base for a couple of nights while exploring the beautiful area, and they can also prepare vegetarian meals. The only issue for us was the thin walls. We could hear the bathroom door whenever someone used it, but we still slept well. The place itself is nice and clean.
