Phoenix Park Hotel

Handy base for getting around northern Okinawa, with the bus terminal nearby and a swimmable beach close too. The room was quiet and clean, though the quilt wasn’t clean, and they quickly replaced the quilt sheet. The air conditioning was cold. Ootoya, an izakaya, and convenience shops are all just a few minutes’ walk away.

My booking was cancelled on the day I was supposed to arrive, and nobody told me. I only discovered it on Booking.com while driving to the hotel. I sent the hotel a message through the site and got no reply. I had to find somewhere else at very short notice, and it cost me extra.

For a budget hotel, the stay was good overall. The staff were friendly, there’s free parking and laundry, and each floor has a shelf where you can pick up amenities. The location is okay if you have a car.

Phoenix Park Hotel was a lucky find for us in Nago, Okinawa. I’d been looking for a non-smoking room near local attractions, and it exceeded what we expected. The front desk staff were very helpful at check-in and made us feel welcome. It also has a charming local feel, with plenty of Japanese guests. We traveled by car, so the ample free parking was a real convenience. The attached restaurant was another highlight, with delicious Japanese food and beer. It checked all our boxes and more, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
