The onsen and room were just what I needed when rain interrupted my camping adventure. The staff were friendly, the food was nice, and the WiFi was good. I paid 5500¥ for the room, which was beyond my camper budget, plus 1200¥ for dinner. A 500ml can of beer was 450¥. If dinner and breakfast had been included in the price, I’d have given them five stars hehe.

There’s a restaurant inside, and you can stay overnight too. The natural hot spring is meant to help or improve your health in different ways. It’s a traditional Japanese spa where you bathe without clothes alongside strangers, which might feel nerve-racking, but it’s normal in Japan. Don’t be shy, just enjoy the hot spring.

The onsen itself is pretty average, though the restaurant is good. I loved the tempuradon. The river is beautiful, and if you visit during the fall festival, there are gorgeous autumn colours to see.

Great sashimi on rice, and the view looks out over the dam. The woman at reception was really nice. Foreigners with tattoos are welcome, though Japanese guests with tattoos aren’t.

The staff at Momijigawa were thoughtful, thorough, and pleasant. I had a lovely, spacious room with a view over the river.
