I booked a night here after the bathhouse scene in Spirited Away caught my attention. As a Ghibli fan, I found the hospitality just as memorable as the setting, from the rooms to the kaiseki dinner and breakfast, plus the soothing hot spring bath. The onsen has indoor and outdoor areas, with natural steaming water flowing into the outdoor one. It's so addictive. My only small issue was the room temperature at the end of spring, near the start of summer. Even with the fan on full, the ventilator blows air from below rather than overhead like traditional air conditioning, so the room didn't feel cool enough. The portable mounted swing fan fixed that, and I slept well. I'd definitely come back.

The meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious, with local food, and the onsen water was wonderfully relaxing. The staff were attentive, polite, and caring throughout our stay. Our traditional-style room was calm, authentic, and well maintained. It made for a memorable stay and a lovely way to experience Japanese hospitality. Highly recommended.

With snow falling over the beautiful scenery, the Japanese-style building looked lovely. The in-room Onsen was great, and the food was good. The place feels completely serene and solemn. I'd recommend it especially to foreigners who've visited Japan a couple of times and want something different from a busy city like Tokyo.

We've been to Sekizenkan four times over the last few years, and the direct bus from Tokyo station is easy, comfortable, and relaxing. We live in Tokyo and love the water, bathhouse, and surroundings. On our latest visit, we took an incredible walk above the resort, looking out across a vast forest of autumn leaves. One small suggestion for the Sanso building: it would be nice to have a lighter meal option. Four full meals over two nights can be a lot, with two big breakfasts and two kaiseki dinners in a row. I feel bad leaving food, but my stomach hurts a little afterward. A simple cooked fish and healthy rice meal for one sitting would be welcome. We'd still come back, and will. Thank you!

Living out my Spirited Away dream was probably my favorite part of our Japan trip, and I won't forget it. The booking process was not foreigner friendly at all, and the website was one of the most frustrating I've used, but the stay was worth it. Service was impeccable. Kashoutei was pricey for us, though the beautiful room and amazing kaiseki dinner and breakfast made it quite reasonable for what we got.
