If you want to spend time in nature, this cottage is a good choice. It has two Japanese-style rooms and two Western-style rooms, and you can see the ocean from inside or outside. Chairs and tables let you sit in the breeze and take in the sea. It’s mainly set up for self-catering, with a BBQ, pizza oven, cooking utensils, plates, and refrigerator. Just bring ingredients and seasonings. Campers should enjoy it. Toilets and showers are shared, and amenities include towels for the length of your stay, toothbrushes, and a hairdryer. Though it’s up high, it’s surrounded by nature, with every room looking out toward the ocean and Kouri Island across the way. There’s also a private beach you can reach only at low tide. A peaceful spot, and I’d recommend staying two nights or more.
Tamaki Village really felt like a place where the soul could relax, and I’d love to visit again. I left feeling refreshed in body and mind. It’s surrounded by nature, with ocean, mountains, fresh air, and the warmth of people all together. No wonder retreats are held here. The owners, Kimie and her husband, moved from Fukuoka and built the inn themselves. When a friend posted about visiting Iheya Island, Kimie commented, and since the place is near Unten Port, I decided to stop by. After walking down a narrow road lined with cottages and stylish guesthouses, the couple welcomed me and showed me to a terrace with meditation chairs. From there I could see the beautiful ocean and Kouri Island, home to the legend of Adam and Eve. It felt magical. The tide was just right, so they took me down to the beach. The cliffs were gorgeous, and we carefully descended steep rock steps using a rope. Ahead was a stunning blue sea and pure white sand, the very picture of Okinawa. Apparently you can do sand baths and yoga there. The spot disappears at high tide, so access is limited, and I felt lucky to arrive at just the right time. Three heart-shaped stones sat on the stairs. With Kouri Island in front of me and the Adam and Eve legend in mind, I thought my luck in love might shoot up. We also climbed a little hill for another great view. I kept saying, “Wow!” The owner brought homemade wild herb enzyme juice, which was delicious. While the couple chatted, I wandered the grounds, found a hammock, and tried it out. It was amazing. The stars must look incredible from there at night. They also say stars are guaranteed to fall. 🤩✨
The recovery meal was delicious, and it really brought home how good it felt to break the fast. During the 3-day, 2-night fasting camp, I could lie in a hammock at night and look at the stars. The beach was completely private when I went down, so I had the beautiful ocean all to myself. Three different original enzyme drinks were served each day, and they were so tasty that fasting didn’t hurt at all. The setting was lovely too. I meditated and relaxed while looking out at the ocean and felt completely detoxed. The owners were friendly and kind, and the space had a comfortable feel. They knew a lot and gave really informative explanations about energy and other subjects. I plan to return for regular fasts. There are several options for people looking for a retreat, and I highly recommend it.
I heard about this place by word of mouth. The beach seems to be private and only for overnight guests. Reaching it means going down stairs made from uneven natural rock that was carved out, so it may take a bit of stamina. Even just looking at the view over Kouri Island is a pleasure, though. The owner seemed kind, and I enjoyed chatting with them. I’d definitely like to stay here.
