Naoshima Tsutsujiso Lodge

We were very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend staying here. The website gave no indication that we hadn’t booked a yurt. The booking showed only the number of beds, not the accommodation type, so we arrived to find a caravan instead, which wasn’t what we expected. The staff weren’t accommodating, and the caravan beds hadn’t even been made when we arrived, so we had to set everything up ourselves. We asked if we could eat at the restaurant for lunch or dinner and were told we needed to reserve before 3 PM. That seemed unreasonable since the restaurant was completely empty that evening. When I asked the front desk about the bus schedule as we were leaving, I was told it would take 36 minutes. A bus actually arrived within 10 minutes, so we missed it and had to wait even longer at the stop, delaying our departure unnecessarily.

Naoshima is a magical place, and staying in the guest house was an awesome part of the experience. There’s a shower and toilet inside, and the tatami mats let you play at being Japanese. Buses into town and to the museums are convenient too.

The camp is close to Benesse House and the nearby art installations, and both the town bus and art express were punctual and convenient. It was one of the best glamping stays I’ve had. Each yurt has four beds. I’d definitely recommend it if you want to spend more time on Naoshima.

The rooms felt spacious and homely, and the staff were kind and helpful. It’s well placed for exploring the island and museums, or just walking along the shore. My only small complaints were the slow internet and the limited sweet snack choices in the vending machine. We’ll come back, and I can easily recommend the experience.
