I was so comfortable at Gasuto Ofu, and the food made the stay even more special. The owners are wonderful people with a family passion for Cuisine. Their luxurious homemade meals were heavenly, and I loved the atmosphere in the dining room. I spent three days there and slept better than I ever have. I usually struggle to sleep away from home, but this time I felt completely at ease. It’s the nicest place I’ve stayed. Give it a try, you won’t regret it. LH

Although there are four private baths, only two can be used at a time, during 6-9am and 3-11pm. A notice in the changing room says to keep visits to 30 minutes during busy hours, listed as 4am-9am. The baths are hot springs, but they’re heated and circulated, and you get in by flipping back a silver sheet. Today one was broken: there are two tubs in one private room, but only one could be used. The water is a simple spring with a little sulfuric acid in it, and it made my skin tingle slightly.

The food was tasty, and there were six baths in all, including an open-air bath and a jacuzzi. It was fun having four private open-air baths to choose from.
