Ryokan Umekawasou

We found the inn online and stayed for the first time as four adults. Everyone in our group thought the place was clean, the open-air bath was at a perfect temperature for lingering, and the carefully prepared dishes were all light rather than greasy. The futons and pillows were incredibly comfortable, and the price was reasonable. It’s clear they pay attention to the smallest details around the inn. We’d like to see it keep getting better, though, and that’s why we wouldn’t quite give it a perfect 5. We’ll definitely come again.

We were welcomed with smiles at this traditional, relaxing hot spring inn, tucked in a quiet spot a little away from the hot spring town center. The mountain views from the open-air bath were a real treat. As an elderly couple, we appreciated that they even set chairs out for us on the tatami mats. Dinner was served in the room and was delicious, with trout, yamame trout, and shabu-shabu. We especially loved the young proprietress’s hospitality. It looks like another enjoyable trip starts tomorrow.

The kids had a lovely time with the beanbags, picture books, and adorable parakeets. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. We were traveling with small children, and the staff were considerate enough to give us a room near the bath. The young proprietress, young landlady, and the rest of the team were cheerful and warm. Their hospitality was truly heartwarming. 😊

It’s set on the mountainside, so the views are great, and being a little way from Shiobara’s hot spring town makes it peaceful. There’s no sauna, but the open-air bath has lovely water. Dinner is served in your room, where you can eat without worrying, and the staff also help lay out and put away your futon. The owner came out himself to see us off, so the stay felt comfortable from beginning to end. I’d definitely like to return.
