The dinner was a real highlight for me. There were plenty of local rock oysters, and I happily ate my fill. The all-you-can-drink option was only 1,100 yen, which is a great deal if you love oysters. Breakfast was delicious too. Hotel Excel Kikusui is an established place in Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture. I drove there, and it was just a few minutes from Nikaho Interchange. The parking area is roomy and easy to get around in. The entrance feels open, the rooms are spacious, and the staff were relaxed and friendly. My one gripe was the shower in the hinoki cypress bath, where the water pressure could be better.

The staff have been friendly each time I've stayed at Hotel Excel Kikusui. I've visited several times, and the service and food have always been excellent.

The parking lot has very few streetlights, which could be risky for drivers who aren't used to it. More generally, the stay left me feeling that there wasn't much thought for guests coming from far away, and I don't think I'll return. I was here on a business trip and chose the hotel because it advertised a large public bath. It turned out to be unavailable because of a facility malfunction. There was no notice on the booking site, hotel website, or anywhere inside, so I only found out after asking on the day. They offered no alternative, which was a big disappointment. Why draw people in with the promise of a large bath if they can't use it?
