It’s an easy walk from Shin-Shirakawa station, and there’s a 7-eleven just across the road. The rooms are small but not cramped, with the basics covered, and they were clean and tidy. Guests can use the laundry and microwaves. Staff were excellent, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious, with a good choice and very reasonable prices.

The first contact at check-in set the tone for the rest of my stay. I arrived ten minutes early, and the young man at the desk told me to come back at 3pm. When I asked if he was serious, he said to wait outside. I stood there for ten minutes watching him do nothing. It was hot and my bag was heavy, so although I was tempted to leave for another hotel, I stayed. Hospitality starts with that first interaction, and he really let things down. Otherwise, it’s a very standard business hotel, and not as good as most. The weeds growing right up to the front door stand out, as does the view across the road of a petrol station and some kind of industrial incinerator smokestack.
