The food and hot springs are good, but the room made me so uncomfortable that the stay felt stressful. I travel for work and stay in around 40 hotels a year, and honestly, this was the worst accommodation I've had. There were far too many bugs in the room. Leaving food or drinks out in a cup attracted more, so eat promptly and be careful. Closing the curtains and switching off the lights near the window helped a lot, but cockroaches still came in through gaps around the windows and between the bathroom floor and wall. I'd bring insecticide or parts cleaner if staying here. Insecticide can make tatami and carpet sticky, so parts cleaner might be the better choice. For the inn, since renovating the rooms may be hard, sealing the window sashes with gap tape and caulking around the bathroom floor and wall might keep costs down. That could make a big difference for under 1,000 yen per room. A mosquito net could help too. Bringing a tent is another option. Some rooms have baths, but the ones here don't seem usable because water leaks to the floors below. If you're staying several nights, the room isn't cleaned beyond laying out the futon and taking out the trash, so you'll have to pick up dead bugs yourself. There's a fairly large refrigerator, but it'd be nice if spills were wiped up thoroughly. The building is over half a century old, so signs of past leaks are understandable, though the carpet stains bothered me. A mat or disposable indoor slippers would help. I've seen other people mention ghosts, but bugs scare me more, that's all. Wi-Fi is available, though the connection isn't great, so business travelers may find tethering easier. It depends on whether the inn is aiming for business stays, leisure stays, or day visitors coming for the baths, but cleanliness matters most and improvements would make guests more comfortable. For business travelers, Odate has few places to stay, and Daiwa Roynet costs over 10,000 yen a night. Major hotels need to keep rooms under 10,000 yen if possible, so with decent Wi-Fi and better cleanliness, this place could attract business guests. In its own way, the stay was an unusual experience, and I want to thank you.
