The area is really lovely, and there’s a spot to watch the sunset just around the corner, about 200 meters away. The owner was nice too. There wasn’t much happening here this time of year.

The Shizuoka Prefecture Youth Hostel Association website says they planned to close in summer 2023 and thanked guests for their support over the years. As of September 2024, it seems all youth hostels in Shizuoka Prefecture are closed, though Kawane Nanamagari-juku is listed as temporarily closed.

The room stayed cool enough to sleep well, even during this extremely hot summer. I’d been concerned about the air conditioning, but it worked fine. The building itself is old, though the friendly owner helped me feel relaxed. I’d stay again if I get the chance.

I was especially taken with the wood-burning stove. There are single rooms, which made for a relaxing stay, and the walk through the grass tunnel opens onto a beautiful sea sunset.

It was quiet and a nice place, though I did notice that the facilities were old. I booked lunch that same day, and they still made me a delicious meal.
