Setouchi Hideaway Resort

The feeling of having the whole place to yourself is one of a kind. We stayed on a weekday in July, and the surf right out front kept us happily catching kiss after kiss. The room was kept clean, and overall it was a lovely resort. I’d love to visit again. Most kitchen gear is provided. For next time, I’d bring my own knife since the one there was dull, plus a mess tin for cooking one serving of rice because they only had a big earthenware pot. There was just one cutting board, so another would help if you’re preparing fish. An extra-long extension cord would be handy since the bed is a little far from the outlet. A lantern is needed at night, and a lantern pole would be useful too. They have an ice maker, gas canisters for the cassette stove, a large three-door fridge, all the cutlery, and an outdoor sink. There’s no washing machine or clothesline. The upstairs bedroom has no curtains, so it was too bright for a nap. Some kind of cloth would help block the light. There are no vending machines within walking distance. For daily necessities, you can shop at the JA supermarket, open only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or at the unmanned Tanakaya. Tanakaya has snacks, instant noodles, ice cream, ice, charcoal, beer (Super Dry only), and juice. Better to buy fresh food on the mainland, and Hello's Mukojima is recommended. Check-in is unmanned, so you go straight to the lodging and contact them after entering the room.

The owner was wonderful and very welcoming, and we had a great time. From the wooden deck we could watch the calm Seto Inland Sea right in front of us while napping, having bonfires, and even doing BBQs. The room was comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook easily. We also rented a tent sauna and tried it out. Its cold plunge looked out over the ocean, so we got to enjoy an outdoor bath with that view. Amazing!

The house itself is a big part of the excitement of arriving. It sits on a corner of the island, with open views over the Seto Inland Sea and its islands. Right outside are a neat deck, a lawn, and a sandy beach. Inside, everything was spotless, and the furniture and dishes had a lot of charm. I'd happily come back.

The bathroom conditioner was especially good. Could you let me know its name? I also really liked the comfortable interior and the beautiful view. My one concern was the sleeping setup: there were only two beds for a place that can host up to eight. Some boys may not want to share a bed, so a few smaller beds might work better than two large ones.
