A decent budget place close to a metro station, with lots of tourist areas about 20 minutes away. The toilets were great. The mattresses, though, may have been the hardest I’ve ever had in this price range, so that cost it a full star.

The service was exemplary, so my dislike of the place comes down to personal preference. It’s close to the station, and I got the lower bunk with handy storage underneath. The room was large, and the nights were quiet, but it was freezing the first night. On the second, the room was blazing hot while the downstairs common area was frigid. The bed had almost no padding, like sleeping on wood. I asked for more, but it barely helped. The pillow and curtain weren’t great either. The ensuite bathroom was very tight, and I got trapped in the downstairs bathroom when the door wouldn’t open. There were no paper towels. The common room had floor mats but no seats, and I felt awkward moving around in the morning while everyone was still sleeping. Management replied fairly quickly, but didn’t answer my request for a towel on the first night or my question about staying past checkout while I booked another place.
The hostess was bilingual, explained things clearly, and went out of her way to be welcoming. She made sure I knew about interesting events nearby and even helped carry my luggage upstairs. This small guesthouse, with what I think is a six-person capacity, felt more like staying at a cool cousin’s house than a little hotel. It’s a friendly, home-like place where you might run into other guests. If you’re after privacy and quiet, it may not suit you, but it’s a good fit if you want to feel at home.
The guesthouse is close to shinfukae metro station, in a lively area with a very quiet, livable neighborhood around it. The host was lovely and made me comfortable, she was friendly and helpful. I’ve probably never stayed in a guesthouse with such a homely feel. For me, it was the best.
Sarasa Dotonbori was clean and comfortable, and the room was surprisingly spacious for such a busy part of Osaka. It was a relaxing place to come back to after a full day exploring. The staff were warm and welcoming too. The location made it easy to walk around Dotonbori, shop, and find plenty of good food nearby. I had a really comfortable stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting Osaka.
