Hotel Kameya

The food was delicious at both dinner and breakfast, and the staff made us feel welcome, sharing lots about the town and helping us feel comfortable. The baths were hot and really therapeutic. My family had a special experience here, one of the best stays I’ve had in Japan.

The staff were fantastic. They went out of their way to make sure guests had a good stay, and Abe, in particular, spoke very good English and helped me arrange a lot of my visit to Naruko. Big props to him and the whole team. The place is old but comfortable, not far from Naruko Onsen. The rooms are quaint and cozy. I stayed on the smoking floor, but there was virtually no tobacco smell. The baths were soothing, including an outdoor one that felt especially fresh in the cool spring air. My only gripe is the lack of AC. With the windows open, the mountain air kept the room reasonably cool.

I’d happily come back soon. The price seemed a bit high to me, but not as much if you can use the National Japanese Travel Discount. The old-style Japanese rooms are just what I like, and ours had a mountain view. There are two onsens, one on the 6th floor with a view and one on the 1st floor with an outdoor bath. The water was lovely, though it smelled like petrol, so watch out for your silver jewelry.

The service was amazing, and the atmosphere throughout felt very cozy. It’s a traditional Japanese-style hotel with several onsens, and soaking in the naturally hot spring water was a superb, relaxing experience. They serve a variety of food, plus a complimentary breakfast with a wide range of dishes.
