Akamon was a great place to stay. The man at reception was lovely and did everything he could to help us. We managed to communicate using a mix of Japanese and English. The room had a lot of charm, and the onsen was cozy. The location is very convenient by the port, with a bus stop close by too if you need Okata port. I loved Oshima, and I’ll definitely stay at Akamon again when I return.

The breakfast they provide is amazing. It’s a very nice hotel close to the boat terminal and the town center. I’ve heard dinner is excellent too, though it may be expensive. Akamon gets its name from being near the ruins of the mansion of the tragic historical figure Minamoto no Tametomo.

The room was big, clean, and had a stunning view. The staff were nice, but they couldn’t speak English, so communication was a little difficult. The location is good too.

The building is old, though it seemed they’d worked hard to keep it clean. The hot spring had a strong disinfectant smell, and both the indoor and open-air baths felt average. We’d read quite good reviews and came with high expectations, but I wasn’t convinced it was worth it. Cigarette smell drifting into the hallway was unpleasant. Thanks for having us.
