Yumotokan

We booked this well ahead for the last part of our trip, and it turned out to be exactly what we hoped for. Since we have a lot of tattoos that are hard to cover, we chose a room with its own balcony onsen. The care throughout the stay was phenomenal. We were there for two nights and tried both the Japanese breakfast and the buffet. The food was all great, though next time we’d probably stick with the buffet both mornings since that felt easier for us. Staying in the honore karoi wing also meant we could use the private lounge, with complimentary beer, juice, water, and soda, plus wine, sake, beer, light snacks, and ice cream in the evening. We couldn’t have asked for more.

The main drawback is getting here without a car. Public transport is a bit far away, and the shuttle runs on a limited schedule, so renting a car is a good idea. There’s plenty of parking. Inside, the tatami room was quiet and comfortable, with lots of supplies. The room and lobby renovations looked great, and the private Onsen rental facilities were lovely. Breakfast had a good range of food, and dinner was high quality. The staff were very friendly. It felt like a five star experience in nearly every way.

We arrived around 10 p.m. after our flight was delayed, but the staff still greeted us warmly, with big smiles. They were extremely kind. The kaiseki dinner was so delicious, the best Japanese cuisine I’ve ever had. We also found the hotel shop had plenty to choose from, so I could bring home souvenirs for friends. The in-room private onsen was convenient, and the shared bath was spotless and had beautiful views. I’d definitely return to enjoy the onsen and facilities again if I get the chance.

The room was clean and really comfortable, and the service stood out. We don’t drink alcohol, so after asking about the complimentary fridge drinks, they brought us green tea. Then at dinner they noticed and swapped the sake for guava juice straight away. Such thoughtful attention to detail.
