Hotel New Kashiwa

A little old, but still good.

I stayed several nights after booking room-only through Rakuten Travel. The room was warm even in midwinter, thanks to a blanket laid over the comforter. Wi-Fi averaged 65 Mbps, so streaming video was easy, and the cooled toilet seat was what you'd expect at a budget business hotel. My room was on the second floor; noise from the izakaya downstairs didn't bother me, though the 7am and 7pm time signal sounded so close it was annoying. Getting the key was a pretty unusual process. The front desk had strong hot coffee available to drink freely, so bringing something sweet to go with it might be a good idea. The booking notes said the bathroom couldn't be used, but actually you could shower, just not fill the tub with hot water because its bottom was cracked. I'd read complaints that the door lock was flimsy, but mine worked properly, and there was almost no gap underneath the door.

The location is excellent. The building seems old, but I had no complaints about the room amenities. It may vary by room, but mine wasn't noisy.

I picked this place at the last minute on the day I needed a room, and the location right in front of Oyama Station was handy. I was happy with the price, despite the poor ratings others had given it. Free parking by the station was another plus. It took a little effort to find the lot behind the izakaya shown in the photo, and parking there was a bit tricky, but it didn't cost anything. The izakaya is downstairs on the first floor, while the hotel lobby is upstairs on the second, reached by elevator. The woman at reception, who was foreign, was friendly and kind. My room had been remodeled from a Japanese-style room, and the unit bath was reasonably clean. Free coffee was nice too, and for the price I was satisfied.
