Brooklyn Hotel

The room had plenty of space for a family and felt like good value. The shower was lovely, too. There was dust that needed dealing with, and one of the bins hadn't been emptied. Getting in was a bit awkward: we had to phone the hosts from the lobby before we could go up, and I couldn't see why that was necessary.

Getting into the place was a mess. Lots of people seemed to be struggling, and the whole thing felt chaotic. The receptionist wasn't helpful, and customer service didn't improve matters. It came across like nobody knew what they were doing, which made the process really frustrating. I wouldn't recommend staying here. Save yourself the trouble.

We got a huge TV and a spacious room, and for what we paid for four nights, it felt well worth it. Since ours was the only room on the first floor, we didn't have to worry about disturbing other guests. I used to stay at TentoTen Sapporo hostel and actually met the owners, so I'm happy to see them grow their hospitality business with this new idea. The smoking spot right outside our room was a downside. When we opened the windows, there were people smoking and talking loudly just outside, which wasn't pleasant. It's also quite a way from Sapporo Station, and hauling luggage over slushy black ice and frozen pavement was rough. I'd never stayed in an unmanned hotel before, so working out check-in took me a while. Check-in was at 4 pm, later than the 3 pm time common at many hotels. I called before 4 and was told I was too early. I knew I was, but the person on the phone could have been more flexible instead of giving me what felt like a cold shoulder.

The room itself was really nice, clean, and had what we needed. What put us off was the noise from upstairs and the landing. There aren't any reception staff on site, and two couples in our group had trouble reaching the remote front desk to check in. With the noise and the remote reception, we wouldn't choose to stay here again.
