I stayed in Jan 2026 and had been worried by Google reviews saying the place was very bad and there were no upgrades. Check-in turned out to be smooth. I’m a Titanium Elite member, and I don’t think I got an upgrade, maybe because the hotel was full or for some other reason. The room was pretty small, though I did receive a small welcome gift box. The location is a strong point: it’s right next to Nijo Market, and across the street is the main shopping area. The train station is farther away, about a 10 minute walk. It may be around seven minutes when there’s no snow, but in snowy conditions it can take up to 20 minutes depending on your pace, since the snow can be hazardous. The front desk staff were kind and polite, not rude at all, and they didn’t refuse my requests. When we needed a taxi to the train station during very heavy snow, they found one for us. We rushed to the station and made it to the airport, so I really have nothing to fault about the service. There’s no lounge, and no onsen or public bath at the hotel. Breakfast is a limited perk: you get it for one day no matter how many nights you stay. For example, a four-day stay only gets breakfast for one day, which struck me as very strange. It’s the first time I’ve encountered such a restricted benefit. The breakfast itself was pretty good, with decent variety and lots of choices, and I ate enough to feel very full. There’s also a free coffee and tea machine on Level 2, if I remember correctly, where the gym is. I didn’t use it much because the coffee and other options were quite bad, so Lawson next door is a better bet. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, I’m okay with this place. Maybe the service at Ginza Courtyard Tokyo was so bad that this one seemed much better by comparison.

The rooms are very small, so I wouldn’t choose one for three or more people, but for one or two it was fine. Despite being on a main road, the windows did a great job keeping noise out. The location was great, within walking distance of the main shopping arcade, Odori Park, Nijo Market, and the lit-up Nikka/Asahi signs. The staff were helpful. They booked a reservation for us that required a Japanese phone number and called other places to check availability. Reaching them through the Marriott app’s messaging feature was easy. Breakfast wasn’t included, though as a Titanium member I could choose one day of breakfast as a welcome gift. The buffet was okay, but probably not worth the full price, and there are better options outside. Bonvoy members can use the complimentary coffee, hot cocoa, and matcha machine on the 2nd floor, which was a nice perk. Overall, a great stay. I’d definitely return to Sapporo.

It’s quiet, clean, and well maintained, just right if you want an easy place to rest. I also liked the free drink. For the easiest route, ignore Google Maps and come through Pole town, take the escalators up to Moyuk, then walk two blocks along Tanukikoji toward the end. You’ll see the Fairfield sign ahead. I’ve used this way many times with luggage, even in heavy snow and on ice.

For the price, it’s a decent place, and the breakfast and coffee shop both seem great. The gym is nice, though it has no squat rack or pull-up bar. There’s no pool or onsen. The location is good, with just a short walk to the covered strip mall. The rooms have a somewhat dated design, but they’re bigger than I expected for Japan. If it weren’t under Marriott, I don’t think I’d stay here.

We had a great stay at Fairfield by Marriott Sapporo. Rooms 911 and 906 were comfortable and well cared for, and the staff were friendly and helpful the whole time. Special thanks to everyone at FIKA Café, especially Judith Cruz Tanaka. She was always smiling, kind, and attentive, which really added to our experience.
