Hotel Abest Sapporo

Breakfast was one of my favorite parts, especially the French toast with Greek yogurt, Hokkaido haskap sauce, and honey. There were also sushi and salmon sashimi rice bowls. The location is convenient for getting around and shopping: Abest Hotel is inside Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade, Mega Don Quijote is a 5-10 minute walk away, and a FamilyMart is attached to the hotel. The Airport Limousine Bus stop across the road makes trips to New Chitose Airport easy. The staff were friendly and helpful. For stays of four days or longer, you can ask reception for housekeeping. Fresh towels and trash collection are available every day if you leave them outside your door. The heating has adjustable temperature settings, which was useful in winter. One thing to keep in mind is that the hotel uses an analog key rather than a key card. I found the comfort, location, and value worth recommending.

The location made getting around easy, with public transport, Odori Park, Odori Subway station, and Susukino all within walking distance. The covered shopping mall is handy in snow or rain, and connects by escalator to Pole Town, the underground shopping precinct leading to Odori subway station. That route is especially useful when arriving from the airport in snow. We were able to leave our luggage when we arrived, and it was in our room when we returned later. The staff were lovely and always willing to help. Ichigo was especially kind on our last day. With snow moving in and the airport bus running, we left earlier than planned and couldn’t meet someone we’d met during the stay at the station. I had no way to contact her myself, so Ichigo listened and called a business twice to pass on the message. I really appreciated her help, and it eased my guilt about changing our plans. Our room was clean and comfortable, though not modern or particularly large. It had two comfortable single beds, enough floor space to open and store suitcases, a chair and small table, another upright chair by the desk-like wall unit, a fridge, kettle, and a cupboard for hanging clothes. The bathroom was quite small, with a shower over a small tub and a high step that could be awkward for shorter or elderly people. The shower pressure was good and hot water came right away. The shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap were lovely. The lobby has toothbrushes, cotton buds, tea sachets, cleanser, toner, moisturizers, shaving cream, and other amenities to take as needed. Towels are replaced daily if left outside the door by 11, and you can leave rubbish there for collection too. We asked for two more pillows and an extra hand towel, and the staff brought them without a problem. There was a ticket for two free alcoholic drinks one afternoon during our stay, with drinks charged after that. Soft drinks from the machine were free to refill, and the coffee machine near the bar had decent coffee whenever we wanted it. There’s a FamilyMart on one side of the foyer, with an exit into the mall. We’d definitely stay here again. Thank you!

We stayed seven nights and would gladly return to Hotel Abest. The staff were kind and polite, and took the time to hear our questions and needs. The building is older but well maintained, with crisp linens and fluffy towels. Its central location puts Odori Park station and Susukino station about five minutes away on foot in either direction. The nearby covered market street was great on rainy or snowy days, and wasn’t icy. They also offer complimentary welcome drinks, a nice extra.

The hotel is next to shops, with a Family Mart inside and the airport bus stop directly opposite. It’s one of the bus’s first stops, so you’re more or less assured of a seat during peak times. The underground shopping and train access are within walking distance. Parking is available about 100 meters away for ¥1500 a day. The rooms are clean and the design is older, but everything works. Staff are courteous.
