Sapporo Garden Palace

Getting to the station or the different tour buses took very little walking. The front desk was great, everyone was polite and welcoming, and the hotel was clean and quiet. I also had a great room and breakfast.

The location worked well for me, not far from Sapporo Station, and I would stay here again despite the hotel's age. There are signs of wear like warped wallpaper, but the room was cleaned each time by hard-working housekeeping staff. The front desk staff were welcoming, and they let me leave my luggage in the “cloak” area before check-in. My main suggestion for management is to have a crew give the bathroom a proper deep clean, including the walls, toilet, and floor. It's hard to clean an old bathroom, and the regular staff barely have enough time for changing sheets and light cleaning. The bathroom had a certain smell as a result. Nearby, Soup Curry Suage 4 and Tempura Yahei in the Miredo building are a few blocks away.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms are spacious. The hotel is quite old, though, and while it's close to the station in a quiet area, there aren't many restaurants or shopping spots nearby. We booked in peak season and had to take a smoking room. It had been deodorized, but non-smokers may still notice the smell at first. After a while, we got used to it.

The rooms were clean and spacious, and mine even had a sofa. While travelling around Japan, this was one of the best hotels I stayed at, with a really good balance of quality and cost.
