Hotel Sho Sapporo

I paid almost three times what I've seen most people pay for this place, even though it was still cheaper than other accommodation. I don't know whether something was happening from 5th - 8th September, but I expected at least a decent room. I'm cutting my losses and moving to another hotel for the next two nights. I hope the extra money I have to spend goes toward something useful, like renovating the rooms or replacing their booking system. The first night was all I could stand out of the three. I'm a solo traveller who doesn't smoke, yet after a double room was apparently double booked, they called moving me to a twin smoking room an upgrade. The whole room reeked of years of smoke. Lifting the sheets was nauseating, and every time I moved under them the smell came back, so I ended up throwing them off during the night. I barely slept anyway, with paper-thin walls and windows that did little to block the city noise. Getting into the room was a mess too. Check-in is supposed to give you instructions, but the page under my room number was blank. I didn't know how to get in until I went up to the tenth floor, which was numbered differently from what the tablet showed. Fortunately, I spotted the manual and used a different tablet after going back downstairs. I contacted the hotel through booking.com about the room. They basically said it was double booked and that was why I got this so-called upgrade. The room also felt old and dirty, and badly in need of renovation.
