KOKO HOTEL Sapporo Odori

Ms. Ito at the front desk was a god-send. I’d lost my phone on the way to the hotel and didn’t have a Japanese phone number, so I asked if she could contact the train company’s lost and found. It was late and she couldn’t reach anyone, but she prepared a document with other ways to help us. She went extra miles for us despite the language barrier. She also helped send our luggage to the next hotel in another prefecture. I can’t thank her enough. The hotel is clean, neat, and spacious enough, with generous amenities you can pick up at the front desk. It’s near popular food spots and attractions, with a convenience and drug store on every corner. I’ve always heard good things about service in Japan, and this was an experience to remember. If I come back to Sapporo, Koko hotels would be my choice.

The room was clean, and the luggage service was very convenient. I had a pleasant stay overall. At checkout in the morning, though, one female receptionist seemed a little unfriendly and less welcoming than I expected, unlike my experiences at other hotels in Japan. I hope they improve the morning service attitude. It’s still a nice, comfortable place to stay.

The location is okay, but the service was terrible. Staff were unfriendly and often unhelpful. The rooms are small, and there isn’t anywhere for guests to sit and have coffee or a snack. We tried to have coffee and a snack in the lobby, and a receptionist came over and chased us away. That was pretty shocking and disappointing. They put effort into guarding the lobby, which isn’t even nice, instead of improving basic facilities for guests. With service like this, it feels more like an Airbnb in disguise than a proper hotel.

The beds were really comfortable, and the room was very clean, though the carpet could use a more thorough vacuum. There are eateries and train stations nearby, about a 5-10 minute walk away. That little bit of distance also kept things quiet, so traffic didn’t bother us.
