Sapporo Grand Hotel

I had a spacious, comfortable room on the Executive Floor Double, which seemed newly renovated and felt quite modern despite the hotel's age. The staff were helpful, and I slept very well. It's a long-established luxury hotel in central Sapporo, close to Sapporo station and the main sights. You can get between the hotel and station without going outdoors, which is especially useful in winter. The on-site Northern Terrace Diner didn't match the comfort or luxury elsewhere in the hotel. It felt distinctly cheap and left me underwhelmed. If your stay includes the Grand in Grand executive lounge, which I recommend, don't pay extra for breakfast at the Diner. The lounge serves breakfast too, and I found it much better.

The room was wonderfully quiet, which made it easy to sleep, and the bedding and pillows were really comfortable. The Sapporo Grand Hotel is also close to Sapporo station. The staff were friendly and quick to help, so I had a very pleasant stay.

We were very happy with our two-night stay at Sapporo Grand in Hokkaido. Traveling as a couple with two kids, we found the staff friendly and attentive, and the location is hard to beat: a short walk from the station and close to Odori park. There’s also a direct basement connection to one of the station walkways, which we didn’t use but appreciated having. The lobby Starbucks made it easy to get an early breakfast for the kids before heading out. For us, it felt like five-star luxury in every way, so I’m not sure why it’s listed as four-star.

The breakfast was a real highlight. There’s a good range of breads and vegetables, and the chef cooks omelets fresh right in front of you. The hotel was established in 1934 as Hokkaido’s oldest Western-style hotel, though the building has since been rebuilt and its facilities renewed. A small archive room in one corner of the lobby displays old restaurant menus and commemorative photos of famous guests.
