UCHI Susukino 5.7

We were told the check-in code several times, then just had to enter it on the iPad in the lobby and video-call the manager. He spoke fluent Japanese and English, and check-in was easy. The building seems fairly new, and it was very clean. Our room was a one-bedroom apartment, while our friends had a larger one with a living room, kitchen, two showers, and three beds. The rooms are more spacious than any other hotel we've stayed at in Japan. There was a kitchen, washing machine, and free WiFi, and the no-smoking rule helps keep the building smelling fresh. The location is convenient, around four blocks from Sapporo station, with restaurants close by and a convenience store next door. My only wish was for a thicker pillow.

My room was roomy and had lots of beds. It could sleep about 5-6 people.

We were there for four days and three nights, but got only three toothbrushes. The washing machine was basic, and although there was somewhere to hang clothes, they rarely dried by the next day. The room was noisy too, with a constant “bang, bang” that nearly got on my nerves. The kitchenette had cobwebs on the range hood, and cleanliness overall needs work. It's about a five-minute walk from Tanukikoji, with a 7-11 next door and a supermarket nearby. We had booked a double bed and a sofa bed, which felt cramped for three adults and a child. When we arrived, the TV kept lagging and wouldn't work. I contacted staff right away, but they couldn't fix it. We eventually worked out that the remote battery was dead. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Our family of five had a lovely two weeks in the 2LDK apartment on Sapporo's 5th floor. It was a quiet spot in the middle of the busy city, three blocks from Susukino subway station, and we slept well. Having a one-bedroom layout on each floor was great with children, since we didn't have to worry about disturbing neighbors. We could cook every day in the well-equipped kitchen, and there were two supermarkets close by, plus a 7-Eleven on the corner. The Hokkaido produce was delicious, especially the cantaloupe and peaches that season. It was a relief to wash and eat them safely in the guesthouse. The building had an elevator, natural light, a washer, heating and cooling, a humidifier, and a bathtub. Thanks to the host for making it such a comfortable place to stay. We hope to come back.
