We were a bit surprised by the tucked-away entrance when we arrived, but the lovely interior and outdoor area quickly won us over. This small property has around 10 rooms, plenty of parking, and a host who was incredibly helpful and accommodating. It was easy to get our luggage up, and the room had everything we needed, including a tiny kitchenette that worked well for simple one-pot meals. The space was laid out thoughtfully, with a comfortable living area, plenty of storage, and a large, comfy bed behind a screen that wasn’t quite full-size. As you’d expect in Japan, the built-ins and furnishings are smaller, but they’re functional, and we loved the quality and attention to detail. The bath and shower were fantastic, with a great shower head and clear water, and the sink was conveniently separate from the bath. My wife said it was the best ever. The building also has a BBQ hut, a small storage hut, a neatly kept grassy area, and a wooden table with four seats and a parasol. The property is about a 25-minute drive from most city center attractions, but that was fine with us. It was wonderfully peaceful, even though the main window faces a street with occasional traffic. Supermarkets are a short drive away. We thought AEON supermarket was a must, and so was Nijo seafood market in the city center. Would we come back to Villa Sapporo Honobono if we’re in Sapporo again? Absolutely.

The owner was attentive and helpful, and check-in was easy. We stayed a few nights while visiting Sapporo and really liked the rooms, which were spacious and well stocked. The hotel has a lovely mix of Japanese and modern design. There’s also a vending machine outside, so cold drinks are always nearby.

We stayed for two nights in a very clean, modern place. The room was spacious, with a fridge, washing machine, shower and bath, and a balcony area. In the common area, there’s a microwave and toaster oven, plus complimentary toast, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The owner was inside to greet us, since there’s no front desk, but checking in was a little confusing. You take off your shoes, put on slippers, and head in. If you wander around, you might even find your room with your name on it. The only bad part was finding three spiders in our room during the stay. Parking is available in the driveway, though cars may be double or even triple parked.

My stay was okay apart from a sour ending. The room was nice enough, but it was cold when I arrived, and it didn’t warm up until halfway through the night. The hallways, kitchen, and bathroom were cold too. I’d moved the air freshener into a cabinet because its smell gave me a migraine. Staff apparently hadn’t checked the cabinets while cleaning, then accused me of stealing it and tried to charge me ¥2,000.

Clean and spacious, and well placed for a winter holiday with lots of ski resorts nearby. I’d definitely come back.
