Shimabara Toyo City Hotel

The price was super cheap, so no complaints. Our room was fresh and very clean, with a great view of the sea and Mount Unzen. It had plenty of amenities, including a microwave, a big fridge/freezer, and ice. The staff were accommodating and let us leave our bags before check-in and after check-out since we didn't have a car, which was really nice. As other reviewers have mentioned, there was no face wash, make-up remover, or sponge, so you might want to plan for that. Otherwise, we had a perfect stay.

For the price, I wasn't expecting anything extravagant, and I was only there to sleep. Still, I would've liked at least Febreze and face and hand soap in the room. It was handy that the front desk could give me disposable chopsticks. Only smoking rooms were available, and it smelled when I first went in. I was prepared for that and got used to it quickly, so it wasn't a problem. The room itself is pretty ordinary. It came with a bathrobe and towels, while the other amenities had to be picked up in the lobby. The toilet lid hit the sink, so it wouldn't open all the way and was awkward to use. Turning on the water caused a slight leak at the faucet base. Something must have been leaking underneath too, because the floor mat got soaked when I filled the bathtub with hot water.
