It was raining when I visited, but the space was so cute and stylish that the weather didn’t matter. Resorts can sometimes feel beautiful but impersonal. At Villa235, I felt warmth in all the little touches, from the furniture and wall art to the wallpaper (*^^*) I was touched by the kind notice asking people to gently release any bugs outside. I went to the sauna early in the morning, and the smell of the rain and birdsong made it a perfect time to meditate. Unlike the super sento saunas, where I find it suffocating and can’t stay long, this one didn’t feel stuffy at all, perhaps because of the cypress wood. I felt like I could stay in forever. Outside, the mountains were faintly visible in the quiet distance, and it was incredibly beautiful. Such a relaxing time!

We were two families, four adults and one child, and all of us came away happy with the stay. The house is a handy base for exploring Shirahama, with the sea, mountains, fish market and amusement park nearby. It's close to the station, though we found a car more useful for getting to the coast and valley. There’s plenty of parking, and a convenience store is within walking distance. The rooms were roomy and spotless, and we could have a BBQ in the garden. The private cypress sauna on the eaves smelled wonderfully woody. It felt like a great-value place to get away from everyday stress, with easy access from Osaka and Kansai Airport. It seems to have opened fairly recently, but already feels like a hidden gem. We’d happily return with family, friends or colleagues.

We could walk to Shirahama Station from here. The private sauna was a nice way to unwind with the family.
