We stopped here between Kyoto and Tokyo, and it worked really well for us. The service was impeccable and friendly despite the fairly isolated location. In April it was quiet, though as spring weather came in, there seemed to be quite a few people visiting in the evenings. There’s plenty of space and lots of onsen pools. We found the scale of the place, and even the areas other people call run down, rather charming. It felt peaceful and gave us room to relax, especially if you find Japanese culture a bit formal. We didn’t explore the surroundings much, and took a taxi from the station for 3000 yen.

I used Oyumaji, so this relaxing bath visit was free for me. The hot spring is in the middle of nowhere, but that meant hardly anyone else was in the bathroom and I could enjoy the quiet. The baths are large and well equipped, much like what you’d find at spajapo or another super sentou. It felt a little strange bathing there with only two or three other customers, but I had a good experience.

There’s a steady noise in the room that made it hard to sleep. The room and services were otherwise good, and there are a few places for entertainment and relaxation. For what I paid, the quality didn’t really feel worth it, so I guess the amenities are what you’re paying for. The wifi was unreliable too.

Children under three aren’t allowed to bathe, so we couldn’t use the bath. After an hour’s drive, just heading home was disappointing, so we looked around and went into the kids’ play area. Reception then chased us down to register and pay 1500. There were quite a lot of kids around, though. 😒
