Toyoko Inn Tokuyama-eki Shinkansen-guchi

Being right by Tokuyama Station's south exit made getting around easy. My room and bath were clean and a good size, and the air felt fresh. Breakfast had rice, soups, bread, side dishes, and tasty curry. The staff were professional. I could hear hallway noise pretty clearly, though. I was up early anyway, so it didn't bother me, but it could make sleeping in difficult.

Pretty much what you'd expect from the other hotels in this chain.

The breakfast stood out for me. I usually stay at Toyoko-Inn, but this was the first time I'd had one this good. It felt like a nicely prepared Japanese home meal, and I was very satisfied. They also kindly held my luggage after I checked out early, until I returned around 5 pm. Golden Week made the price a little high, though I could understand the cost. The hotel is near Tokuyama Station, with a bus stop out front for easy trips to places like the zoo and Eigenzan Park. With my Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass, I also got to Hofu-si and Akiyoshi cave using the Shinkansen and JR trains.

The room was spotless, and the three women working the breakfast area were doing their best. Still, with so many guests, we had to wait for a seat and then for the rice to finish cooking. The curry was more like soup, which was disappointing. The multi-level parking garage seemed too small for larger cars, so we were sent to a nearby garage. Even with a discount coupon, 1,400 yen felt a bit steep. I think they mentioned it might cost less if booked ahead. The male parking attendant explained everything carefully and was friendly, and the older attendant gave us a warm greeting at checkout. They say parking and the free breakfast are first come, first served, but it didn't feel like everyone got the same service. I wish they would provide it equally to guests.
