We stayed in villa Rakuen room 508 on 20 May 2026. The food was the one disappointment this time. It was nowhere near as nice as on our first stay last year, and for what we paid it didn't feel like good value. The attendant serving us did a great job, though, and was so friendly with my toddler. The staff were otherwise kind, with one exception: the man who checked us in at the room. With the language barrier, I felt he lacked initiative and didn't even try Google translate. The meal attendant had checked with him about our food preferences, but he couldn't explain her questions to us or answer ours. As soon as he left, she promptly used Google translate, and it was obvious she was trying not to override him while he was there. That moment felt very awkward and uncomfortable. He was courteous, but he was the only letdown among the staff we met. The hotel team really made the stay for us. The young Japanese male bell hopper with neatly combed hair who welcomed us on 20th May carried our luggage, walked us into the hotel, and left a small handwritten note asking us to wait for reception because of the language barrier. Such initiative and kindness. The next morning, on 21 May, he saw us off with a big smile, held an umbrella over us in the rain, and carefully stopped traffic so our car could leave smoothly. He deserves a promotion and to be the face of the hotel. I didn't get his name, but if management reads this, I hope he gets an executive role. I'm sure he'd do his best. After dinner we went up to the roof at level 12 out of curiosity, and were surprised to find three staff waiting there for guests because there was a free footbath. The youngest employee was wearing a mask, and I think she was Chinese. She impressed me so much. She was proactive and left the door open, probably knowing we'd soon come back inside because it was so windy and the door was faulty. That way we wouldn't have to wait for it to be opened again. She even pressed the lift before we reached it. She's a real asset, one of the most attentive staff I've come across on my many trips to Japan over the decade. I hope management recognizes her. I'd love to return to this ryokan. It's one of the most traditional ones we've stayed at on our trips, and the hospitality here is the epitome of Japanese hospitality. That kind of service is becoming scarce in the industry.

The room felt open and spacious, just right for a relaxing break. We were very happy with the hot springs and the food, too.

On our first stay at Hotel New Awaji, the scenery, relaxing hot springs, and tasty meals all went beyond what we expected. We'll definitely come back and wholeheartedly recommend Hotel New Awaji to friends. The service during in-room dining made the biggest impression. Ms. Sachiko(Sachiko )and Ms. Ain(Ain) were warm, attentive, and thoughtful throughout. Since we don't speak Japanese, they used mobile translation tools to explain each dish and how to enjoy it. They stayed patient and cheerful, making us feel truly welcome. Our lovely experience began with their exceptional service, and their professionalism and heartfelt hospitality deserve special recognition.

For a family of four, the villa-style room was impressively spacious. It had several TVs, though we probably wouldn't use them all, plus a smart TV with streaming and Wi-Fi. After dinner and the onsen, it was easy to unwind there, especially with the private onsen bath, big enough for two. The seaside setting also meant breathtaking views, and the sunrise was spectacular. I was only there for one night, but managed to try the onsen facilities. The rooftop one was being renovated, while the other three were spacious and excellent. Each had separate areas for men and women, with access alternating by time of day so you could experience different baths and views. Dinner and breakfast both came to the room. The kaiseki dinner was a highlight, with impeccable presentation, portion sizes, and variety. It felt worth every penny, an easy 100/100 for me. Breakfast was simpler but still delicious. The hotel also had fantastic service and a range of onsen to explore and enjoy. Getting there can be a little challenging, but the highway express bus from Kobe-Sannomiya drops you right at the hotel and picks you up the next morning, so it worked well even without a car. You can also come by car. Local amenities within walking distance are quite limited, so if you want to explore Awaji Island or stay longer than a night, I'd highly recommend renting a car. For my one-night visit, the bus arrangements were perfect.

We had a Deluxe Sea View room with an open air bath, and the first thing I thought was, this is a real Japanese room. The hotel sits by the ocean, with a beautiful panoramic view, especially at sunrise. Staff were kind and polite, and our private helper in the deluxe room was always dressed in her Kimono. The Japanese dishes were amazing, served with art and grace, and each one complemented the others. The menu followed the season. Since we went in summer, there was fresh fish and cold sake. If you're after a Japanese style hotel (Japanese inn) and want to try Japanese style dishes (Japanese cuisine), this is the place. It gives you an experience you'll never forget.
