Tagawaitaekisya Hotel

The guest rooms, showers, and toilets were clean. But security felt lax: people who'd been partying all night ended up waiting for the first train in chairs by the unmanned front desk. I wouldn't recommend staying here on New Year's Eve. The countdown was loud enough to hear in the guest rooms, and guests should have been told about it in advance. I was dissatisfied with management, which seemed to think it was fine as long as they were having a good time, without considering how guests felt.

The hotel is quiet, but there are no full-time staff at night and everything is self-service. You need earphones to listen to the TV, and neither dinner nor breakfast is provided. There aren't any supermarkets nearby, so I did my shopping at one near Shin-Iizuka Station. I'd read that train fans would love this place, but I was disappointed. It didn't feel much like a sleeper train either. For a few hundred yen more, you can get free breakfast at XX Inn.

The hotel is inside the station building, so its spot on Google Maps seems inaccurate. If you're taking a taxi, aim for Tagawa-Ida Station. The website domain has expired, but you can find it through places like Jalan or call by phone. They also seem to have an Instagram account. It opened in 2020, so everything was clean. After 9 pm there aren't places to eat near the station, though there are yakitori restaurants and izakayas in the entertainment district just beyond the nearby shopping arcade. It was a weekend, but the area was almost empty, which made it a great starting point for a night walk. A semi-double room was 5,500 yen per person.

I stayed June 3-4, 2025, in Double Room (Room 6). Being right next to Tagawa-Ita Station was convenient, and the direct connection to the station made for an interesting stay. The trains and passengers felt both close and distant. The area was quiet, so I could relax, while watching local passengers come and go from the window whenever a train arrived or left. You can see the platform and trains from the window, depending on the room. There was no train noise to worry about, and I'd use the hotel again. It's especially appealing if you like trains. Everything throughout the hotel was clean and tidy. The room wasn't spacious and had no desk, and the lock was a bit clunky. It had a TV, mosquito repellent, deodorizing spray, two hangers, tissues, two small desks, and five outlets, one used by the air purifier. Hand and bath towels for showering were in the room. Strong Wi-Fi signal, password protected. Toilets and showers are shared, with four of each. Two toilets are for women only. There are two washrooms with hair dryers. Self-service amenities near the entrance include a blanket, brush, razor, towel, toothbrush, earphones, earplugs, cotton swabs, pajamas, and slippers. The kitchen and shared dining space have a microwave, toaster, kettle with hot water, refrigerator, dishes, knives, cutting board, and rice paddle. Vending machines are on site. A welcome drink is available from the restaurant in the same building. There are a bakery and restaurants inside the station, a MiniStop, and independent restaurants nearby. Supermarkets and other facilities are reachable by car. The front desk was unmanned when I visited, so I checked in at the restaurant on the same floor. After leaving the station, use the stairs or elevator on the left to reach the entrance on the second floor. Thanks very much.
