The sauna cabin was a highlight the next morning. Its mirrors brought the forest into view, and the outdoor tub and shower made my booked 1.5-hour session seem much too short. Back at the room, I could soak in my own hot spring surrounded by trees, then settle in with drinks in the self-service lounge. Getting there was part of the experience: staff at reception already knew my name and had checked my emails about arrival time, group size, and food preferences. A golf cart carried me up the steep path through the forest to a modern, peaceful room. Dinner was served privately in the room, which made the evening feel intimate. At night, the outdoor lights made the place feel dreamy. If the weather cooperates, stargazing from the hot spring sounds hard to beat. Arrive on time so you can enjoy it all. A restorative forest stay, and highly recommended.

The inn is out in the countryside, with little within walking distance. We rented a car at Takao Station and used it to explore during the day. Our room was spacious by Japanese standards, with a private patio, a tatami room, and a comfortable bed. Having our own villa made it easy to unwind, especially in the hot, calming onsen, which we used a lot. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, with regional dishes. A golf cart takes you up from the lobby, and there’s a lounge with drinks and snacks, though you pay for those. We could hear road noise while using the outdoor onsen. Apart from that, it was a great place to get away and relax.

After a couple of nights here, I think other onsens might feel a little sub par. The cabins are private, the food is amazing, and having our own outdoor onsen made the place feel truly unique. Staff are professional, but the atmosphere stays relaxed. We’ll definitely come back.

The calm setting is beautifully kept, and the amenities feel thoughtfully chosen. Staff were genuinely warm and attentive, and the food was excellent. It’s an easy place to unwind and feel comfortable. I’d recommend it to anyone hoping for a restful, restorative stay.

Kaze no Mori is a lovely Ryokan and worth visiting. It was a bit farther from town than we’d expected, though the taxi driver knew the place well.
