Nilaina Resort (Iriomotejima)

We loved the common areas, especially the dining room and outdoor patios, and the homemade breakfasts were outstanding. They alternate between Japanese and Western styles, and the bread was spectacular. The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful. Matsu drove us to restaurants each evening, helped plan our days on the island, and made dinner reservations for us. It’s a lovely small hotel for a quiet stay surrounded by nature. The rooms and shared spaces were very clean and large. The air conditioning worked well, and the shower had good pressure and temperature. The beds felt a bit hard for us. We’d highly recommend it if you like nature and homemade food.

The hosts were so friendly and arranged ferry-port pickup at Uehara, booked island tours, and organized rides to and from restaurants. The service was impeccable, and we loved our three-night stay in August 2023. We’d absolutely return. Surrounded by forest and exotic plants, the hotel really feels like it’s in the jungle. Our clean, beautiful room had a patio overlooking the greenery, and the beach was just a five-minute walk away. They serve breakfast only, no lunch or dinner, but it’s homemade and very tasty. One of the best boutique hotels I’ve stayed in, highly recommend it.

Matsu was a great host and gave us good recommendations for local restaurants. This is a beautiful little B&B with lovely bedrooms, a great view, and good breakfasts.

With only a few rooms, this inn offers a quiet, relaxing stay tucked into the forest of Iriomote Island. The friendly couple who run it were very kind and attentive, and the dinner shuttle was a big help since they don’t serve dinner. The building shows a little age, but the lobby and rooms are lovely, clean, and well cared for. A good choice if you’re looking for a peaceful break in nature and value warm, thoughtful hosts.
