I booked for the location first, and that beach really is a big draw. A private path just a few seconds away leads to a sandy ocean beach with a long shallow stretch that’s fun to enjoy. The place itself feels like a more upscale guesthouse, with high-quality furniture and everything impeccably clean. The people running it clearly have a knack for getting the details and operations right, and the customer service was unlike anything I’d experienced. I’ve stayed at lots of guesthouses in Japan and Okinawa over the years, so I was impressed. Highly recommended, including for Genius ranking.

Even with poor weather during my stay, I had a wonderful time and hope to return to this island and abode. This is the only guesthouse in Kohama, and it has a very comfortable bed and friendly staff. They speak a little English, actually better than mainland Japanese people in general.

I left early to catch the sunrise, and the owner was so humble and considerate that she came down to the ferry terminal to look for me and see me off. When I arrived, she greeted me warmly and made sure I was comfortable. She also showed me the quickest way to the beach. I had an incredible stay and hope to return someday, perhaps with my family.

The dorm is very basic, though the shared bathroom was clean and the staff were helpful. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the ferry, and there are a couple of places to rent a bike or scooter right across from the terminal. If you get a bike, make sure it’s electric, since the island’s hills can be tough.

We slept really well in the clean room, and had a wonderful time at the beach. It’s a little over a 10-minute walk from Obama Port.
