Sasayama Holonpia Hotel

It was okay.

The food was tasty and the staff were really friendly, which I appreciated. I’d gone in expecting good value because of the reviews, and it turned out to be a business hotel that felt about right for the price. I wouldn’t recommend bringing children, though. The walls are thin, so their noise and vibrations carry into the next room. I know the kids weren’t doing it on purpose, but being woken by thudding at 6am was annoying. The ventilation fan roared, and the air conditioner kept rattling too, so it was hard to relax with all that noise.

We picked a Japanese-style room for the last night of our trip, thinking it would be nice. The room was clean, and having a microwave there was handy, though the place did feel old overall. The blanket we asked for arrived quickly, which helped since it was chilly. The futon, however, was so flat that my family and I woke up with sore backs. If it was going to be that thin, I wish they’d provided an extra mattress.

I stayed here the night before the Fukuchiyama Marathon. It’s easy to get around by car from the nearby Fukuchiyama Interchange, and the station is close too, so the train is convenient as well. It’s an older hotel, and the unit bathroom sink is small and a bit awkward to use. The in-room microwave was useful. The door locks automatically, but if you don’t shut it firmly when leaving, it can catch and stay partly open. I nearly went out without locking it. Still, the price is reasonable, so I guess that’s acceptable... (lol)
