The hotel sits well away from things, so if you arrive by Shinkansen, plan on using its station shuttle. There are activities once you're there, including bug-catching walks led by nature guides who explain the specimens in Japanese. The bugs are released afterward. I also thought the buffet was superb: made-to-order sushi, regional dishes like soba and cold tofu, and plenty of other good food. For a trip with young children, try to reserve the “welcome baby” room, which comes with lots of things for little ones. A lovely nature escape from Tokyo.

A really good choice for families with babies. The room is roomy enough for everyone, and the staff are kind and helpful. They had the formula bottle equipment shown in the photo ready, and diapers are supplied free as part of the accommodation.

Parking is adequate, and the buffet spread is incredible. The onsen baths seem a little worn from heavy use. Maybe that's because this is a golf resort with so many visitors.

The team were very friendly, and the buffet was regularly replenished. There was Japanese, Chinese, Korean, French, and other Western food, with sushi and noodle stations, Peking duck, desserts, bread, salads, and drinks. I got to sample some delicious local Japanese dishes, and the rice came from nearby fields. The mini convenience store even had sake tasting, so I was lucky enough to try Niigata local sake. Great value.
