An Hotel

The air conditioning at least kept us from having to sleep outside, though I’ve never actually slept on the street and I doubt this hotel feels much different. I’m horrified by the room hygiene. A few minutes walking on the floor turned my white socks black, and there wasn’t even soap in the bathroom.

There’s no security at the entrance, so anyone can walk into the building. That felt like a safety hazard. The room itself was filthy and nothing like the pictures: stains on the sheets, hair everywhere, nail clippings and rubbish on the floor, plus a strange smell through the building. I asked the owner about the condition and requested a refund so we could stay elsewhere, but my messages were ignored. Booking.com customer service couldn’t get us a refund, and we were told cancelling and leaving early would cost more than £100. I asked for something as simple as clean sheets and was ignored again, so I bought bedding myself. The owner said the cleaning was sufficient, suggested a guest might have left the hair, and said it was unreasonable to complain about being unable to stay once we were already in the room. They also argued that entering the room meant it wasn’t uninhabitable, and said an early checkout would incur a 20,400 JPY cancellation fee. There was no apology or acknowledgment of the condition, just blame for the mess and inconvenience. Please don’t waste your money here.

At An Hotel in Tokyo, the room smelled bad and looked like it hadn’t been properly cleaned. The sheets seemed used, the bathroom was disgusting, and stains were all over. When I raised the issue, the staff ignored me and weren’t helpful. The online pictures gave a misleading impression, and for what I paid, the stay was unacceptable. I’d avoid this hotel and stay elsewhere.

We got to Tokyo too late to check into the hotel we’d originally booked, so we found this place at a reasonable price. The office had closed by the time we arrived, and without a phone I thought we’d be stuck outside and lose our money. Some lovely tourists from Bali were staying there too and helped us find a staff member who could check us in. The room was small but clean, with a fridge, toothbrush and toothpaste, a couch, earplugs, and an air conditioner that worked perfectly. Female guests had separate showers and a toilet, and there was a shared kitchen. Simple, comfortable place to crash for the night. I’d recommend it.
