And Hostel Kuramae West

After a long trip from the UK, this felt like a peaceful and safe first stop for our first visit to Japan. The neighborhood was calm, with plenty of restaurants nearby and transport close at hand. Downstairs there’s a lovely lounge for relaxing in the morning or evening. The bed cubbies fit well, and their curtains blocked almost all the light. The bathrooms were so clean, and the shower pressure was the best I’ve ever had. Such a clean, comfortable hostel!

It’s quiet here, so getting a good rest is easy. The hostel is clean and has the facilities you need, including laundry, storage, umbrella rental, and free shampoo. The staff are friendly and helpful; they even helped me find a cheap gym. There isn’t much of a social atmosphere, though, so if you’re traveling solo and hoping to meet people, that may be harder.

The staff were polite and helpful, and the room and amenities were clean. On the fifth floor there were enough bathrooms and showers. Just remember this is a hostel, so there are more people sharing less space and the amenities aren’t as generous as at a hotel. I found it hard to get any work done downstairs. The hostel sits between a few stations, not especially close to any, though the walks are doable for most people. The window handle was nearly broken. Our room door let through both sound and light, and had a hole patched with a thin piece of wood that did little to block noise. Luckily, guests on the top floor weren’t very active.

A clean, comfortable place to stay in Tokyo on a budget. I really appreciated having a sink in the private room. It’s not especially social, but it’s a good deal if you’re traveling with someone or just want somewhere quiet to sleep.
