Andon Ryokan

That homemade Japanese breakfast was warm and so tasty, probably a one of a kind experience. We stayed two nights and wished we could've added more. The room was quiet and beautiful, if a bit small, and the futon and blankets were incredibly comfortable. I slept so well.

Room 27 was clean, neat, and thoughtfully fitted out. As a carpenter, I could see a lot of custom work had gone into it. The rooms are small, so we had to open two suitcases, but that’s part of the charm. There’s a luggage lift for bags. Breakfast was nice, and we found good yakiniku where you grill your own meat, just a five-minute walk away. It’s a decent walk to busier areas if that’s what you’re after. The staff were lovely. I had a knee injury, and the stairs weren’t ideal, though I should have asked about that beforehand. The real downside was the forklift noise from across the way on Saturday and Sunday. It really broke the peace, and at 8:20 the room filled with fumes when a window was open. Aside from that, I rate the place.

A great base for Asakusa and beyond, with interesting streets and 7/11s easy to get to. The rooms are comfortable, the staff attentive, and breakfast is traditional. Andon ryokan is beautiful. A Tokyo stay doesn’t feel complete without spending a night here.

The only small downside was that there weren’t many bath and jacuzzi time slots available. Still, we had a wonderful night and morning at Andon Ryokan. The building’s modern architecture sits nicely alongside the traditional ryokan feel, with futon beds, lovely rooms, and baths. It’s in a peaceful neighborhood, with excellent zakaya restaurants nearby. I’d recommend booking the Japanese breakfast for the local fish and tofu. The staff were very friendly and happy to chat in English about Japanese culture and their travels in Europe.
