APA Hotel Asakusa Shin Okachimachi Ekimae

Ask for a higher floor if you can. At busy times the wait can be long if you’re on the sixth floor or below. We had a couple of close calls on the sixth, and I saw someone on the fourth get stuck. The stairway is for emergencies only. Breakfast is underrated here, especially the tonpeiyaki with pork, egg, and cabbage. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s laundry in the lobby, though the place next door is a little better. Rooms are small but practical, and for the price the location is convenient and breakfast is good.

The laundry issue left me with damaged clothes, including a stained skirt, and no one offered compensation. The hotel told me to take it up with the machine provider, even though the machines are a facility on the property. I followed up, but neither the hotel nor the provider accepted responsibility, leaving me with a financial loss and a very dismissive impression. They suggested something like a pen in the wash caused the stain, but none of the clothes had pockets or could have contained one, including the T-shirts in that load. I find it hard to accept that the damage didn’t happen during washing. The room was also uncomfortable. It was extremely small, and the pillows were hard, old-looking, and very worn, so I struggled to rest. The elevators were often busy with long waits, and the hotel isn’t especially convenient for major subway stations. My experience at APA Hotel Asakusa Shin-Okachimachi Ekimae was very disappointing. I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it.

I never felt awkward or like I was in the way, which can happen for me because of my autism. The staff were so sweet during my stay in Japan, always polite and patient, and really professional. I can’t wait to come back!

The only downside was how busy the elevator got in the morning. Otherwise, it was one of the best places we stayed during our Japan trip. The rooms are spacious by Japan standards, and the room service and cleaning were really good. There’s also a food court on level one. Amenities included a TV, fridge, air conditioning, and kettle.
