APA Hotel Kayabacho Hatchobori Ekimae

We really enjoyed our stay at an APA Hotel in Tokyo. It was spotless, modern, and well equipped, with a comfortable bed and good amenities. The compact room made clever use of every bit of space, from the smart lighting and climate controls to the high-tech bathroom features. It felt thoughtfully designed, not cramped. Even the bathroom had a distinctive Japanese touch: the urinal had an integrated wash station. It was practical, modern, and immaculately clean. A comfortable little capsule of a room, and a great stay.

The luggage storage under the bed was practical, and the front desk staff were kind and helpful. English communication was a little difficult, but we managed. The hotel was decent for the price. The biggest problem was the single elevator. It got packed at busy times, and more than once I waited about 15 minutes because each car arrived full. With luggage, getting down for checkout was difficult. Eventually I carried my bags down 12 floors on the emergency stairs, which felt unsafe and shouldn't have been necessary. The stairs were locked and meant for emergencies, too. That setup is unacceptable. The soundproofing was poor enough that I could clearly hear my neighbor snoring. With a good discount and a short stay, the hotel may be fine. If you're particular, with family, or carrying more than a backpack, I'd look elsewhere.

There are lots of conbinis, restaurants, and even some supermarkets nearby. The Hibya subway line is close, so you're well connected to the rest of the city. The APA hotel is also about a 20-minute walk from Ginza.

The room was very clean and comfortable, and two of us could move around fine. The bed was comfortable, too, and we appreciated having two pillows. It's smaller than rooms at most places in the US, as expected. Staff kindly stored our bags before check-in, and checkout was easy: just drop your cards in the box on your way out. The location was excellent, between two Tokyo train stations and about a 25-minute walk from Tokyo main Train station. Amenities included a toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb and brush combo, shower cap, soap, shampoo, conditioner, washcloth, and hair ties.
