This feels like a typical APA, but the location is a little out of the way. Housekeeping needs work: the toilet smelled of urine, the shower curtain needed replacing, and the pillows smelled sweaty and should be washed properly or swapped out. The thermostat is set to cool, and even when it’s cold at night there’s no heat because the system is centralized. There’s no washer or dryer in the hotel, so you have to go to a laundromat behind it, where one load costs USD $10. At least the window opens. If the prices are similar, I’d choose Toyoko Inn instead. The owner has a generous heart, providing breakfast for everyone, and you can set the heat or AC as needed. My room has a couple of books, “The Teaching of Buddha” and “The New Testament”, not books about the owners. The owner of Toyoko Inn is probably making less money than the owner of APA, but I bet that person is more content and happy in life than the latter. You can squeeze as much as you like out of each hotel guest, but you still die and can’t take anything with you. Yes, that time is near. Daiwa Roynet is another better option than APA, with rooms that tend to be larger and better housekeeping staff.

My only drawback was that there’s no designated smoking area. Otherwise, the hotel is clean and comfortable, close to three train stations and nearby konbinis, and not far from central Tokyo. Definitely recommend it.

For a budget trip to Tokyo, this is a good choice. The neighborhood is quiet, with plenty of convenience stores and a supermarket nearby, and both metro and JR lines are close. The staff were very friendly and polite, like 99% of Japan. Check-in took a bit of time, but it wasn’t too bad. The rooms are small, especially the toilets, which could be difficult if you’re over 175 cm tall. Towels are changed daily, and the free toiletries are good quality: flip-flops, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, napkins, and more. It was a good stay for first-time visitors to Tokyo, since it’s easy and fairly quick to reach most well-known neighborhoods.

I cancelled several days before my reservation, which was due to start April 17. The cancellation terms said there’d be no penalty if I cancelled more than a day ahead. I first saw a refund, but then it was reversed, and the stay still hasn’t been refunded. I contacted the hotel’s customer service and haven’t heard back. Please advise. I’ve heard good things about APA and have stayed at your sister Coast Hotels before.

The location was perfect, with everything I needed just a short walk away, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. After we accidentally left some belongings at checkout, the team got them back to us so efficiently. I really appreciated the help. APA Nihombashi Bakurocho Ekimae was a great stay, and I’d happily return.
