English communication was sometimes difficult and caused inconvenience during our stay. The building has 14 floors but just one lift, so if it’s being maintained or out of service, guests have to use the stairs. Check-out at 10:00 may feel early for many travelers. Air conditioning is centrally controlled, so you can’t set the temperature yourself. We got two bottles of water as a welcome amenity when we arrived, but no more were provided on later days.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. There were plenty of amenities, and even though the room was very compact, it was more comfortable than we expected. The bed was soft and clean.

Day one was horrible. We landed at 8.30am and went straight to the hotel. They had rooms available, but only for an extra fee. There were four of us, all exhausted after an overnight flight, so we asked if we could get just one room first to freshen up. They wouldn’t let all four of us in, only two. We had to wait until 3pm for our rooms, then queue because they let everyone check in right at 3. A ridiculous policy. The service was lousy, and I promise I won’t come back. They shouldn’t be in the hospitality business. This place sucks!

The room was a little small, but fine for my stay, and it had a bathtub with nice hot water. They refill the bottle daily and replace towels if you leave the bag outside the door. It’s about a 10-minute walk from Ueno subway station. A shame the membership is only available to people staying in Japan long term, not tourists. I don’t need APA loyalty, then. Seems odd.
